138-13KV Transformer and Switchgear Replacement
Project Description
Our clients regional load growth demanded increased distribution system capacity and reliability plus increased operational flexibility. The scope included the design and installation of a butler style building on slab, indoor switchgear, and 18 MVAR of bus capacitors, installation of a 3rd 62 MVA 138-13kV transformer, plus four 138kV breakers and five disconnect added to the outdoor bus configuration, and new zones of protection to be established with new relaying and SCADA control. The new 13kV circuits included the installation of a new concrete encased distribution duct banks, including 12 new manholes for the installation of the two new 13 kV circuits. This project was planned to reduce projected overloads on two substations from 102% to 85% with increased capacity and reliability because of the newly installed reliable equipment.
