Project Description
Our Northeast Regional Gas Utility needed comprehensive management of this $15M project for their largest commercial customer. LCS supplied a Sr. Project Manager to lead, build, and support a diverse project team to navigate the 3-phase project management process. The scope involved substantial upgrades to a Utility-owned gate station, tie-ins to three transmission lines, construction of a metering station and a 1½ mile coated-steel high pressure gas main, including three horizontal directional drills and a railroad crossing bore.
The commercial client projected closure for three of their North American mills. Their regional facility was scheduled to close due to an old, inefficient energy production infrastructure. The gas utility offered a solution to supply high pressure gas to the facility, enabling the construction of a modern, efficient, and clean combined cycle energy facility, keeping the plant viable. The team guided the project through conceptual and detailed engineering, community relations, material supply, permitting, and construction. The project allowed for gas supply flexibility by tying-in to other sources so that the commercial client could operate their combined cycle plant before the transmission gas is available.
Project Highlights
This was the first Over High Pressure (maximum allowable operating pressure of 550 PSI) gas mains on our utility customer’s system. Maximum allowable operating pressure of 550 PSI.
The project enables the client’s paper mill to stay open – saving 650 jobs, removing 250K tons of greenhouse gas annually, and increasing the client’s annual gas revenues by $950K.
The entire project team was recognized with a Team Collaboration Award for excellence in project delivery by the gas utility project management group.
